New Shop Update

This season has been a busy one for me, phew. I won't complain at all though and happy to be up and running into spring. If only the weather would catch up. I'm using my time indoors while I wait for the thaw, I've been in the studio a ton making new pieces for spring and summer. I do hope you'll drop by the shop and take a peek:)

New Colours for Spring!

Choosing colours and sticking with them is not my strong point. Much of my design sense is driven by colour, so narrowing down the pallet and focusing on a few choice colour combinations is always painstaking for me. Yet, decisions had to be made for my Spring 2014 collection. Even though I have dozens (most likely over 100- really) of glass colours to choose from, by focusing on a dozen or so choices I can streamline the design process and provide a well thought out colour pallet for the season that compliment my jewellery design in the best possible way. So, here are my main choices so far (I think, really):

Look out for my new Spring collection coming to the shop this week. Yes, I still hope for spring, even though it -20 and snow covers most of my windows!

More NEW pendants are being listed in the shop today! This time, these wood bezel and fused glass beauties I've been working on for awhile. I have sold these at craft fairs and in my studio for sometime, but recently decided they belonged in my ETSY SHOP as well.

Each pendant is one of a kind and is made in several stages just for you. I love the vintage feel and mixing the wood bezels and fused glass gives them a natural texture. Come by and take peek. XXOO Penny

New Bohemian In The Shop Today

I've been so busy listing new things in the shop, I haven't have the chance to stop by and say hi. The new year is turning out to be a whirlwind at our house with our house renovations coming to an end (soon, fingers crossed!).

In the meantime, while I anxiously await my new bedroom (yay!) I have been a busy bee in the studio trying to keep my mind off the progress two floors above. Here are just a few one of a kind bohemian style necklaces that I listed in the past week:

Good Night.

It's a cold a blustery night out tonight, the kind that is making me want to do nothing but hide under my cozy blanket in front of the fire.

This rainy dark night also reminded me that I wanted to stop in to show off some NEW Night lights that I made for a show this weekend. They were such a big hit that I thought about listing them in the shop as well. I have some photos to take and listings to write, but watch for them to be available for sale in the next few days.

Trying Something NEW

Day 2: TEA TIME

I have to admit that I have always been a coffee girl, my habit has now brought me up to a staggering 4-5 cups a day, but I have decided to give afternoon tea a try instead. So, for Day 2 of my try something new project I went out to my neighbourhood shop to find something new.



I came home with a sampling of teas from Steep and Infused , a local company which was previously unknown to me (yay, another NEW thing!).

Today's choice was Japanese Cherry (a japenese green sencha tea with rose petals and natural cherry flavour) and I am so happy that I tried something New! The smell alone made me feel all warm and fuzzy and the exotic taste really made the whole ritual enticing. I think this new thing could stick:)

Made it into a treasury today!

I'm having fun with some new summer colours and today I was included in a treasury on etsy! I'm so glad that someone else appreciates the way I use colour because I'm having way too much fun playing in my studio lately (the laundry is piled up and threatning to escape!). Oh well, only so many hours in the day!

Working Mom Gets Through IT!

Ok, I don't like to complain, but this week was a little challenging! Two sick kids (one with the chicken pox, one with the flu), but I managed to get through it and still get a little new work in! Yay, chaulk one up for working moms everywhere!

Although, sleep deprived, I managed to post some exciting new items on my etsy site. Including some new dichroic pendants (so deep and glittery!) and new fused glass items including bookmarks, wine stops and keychains.

Penny Glass Girl Finally Begins a Blog!

I have been making art my entire life, but fell in love with glass about six years ago. I began selling to friends and family, then friends of friends, then family of friends, then to retail, then online...before I knew it I had started to build a small but fullfilling business that I could work into my full-time parent schedule.

It all began when....
My husband dragged me to a stained glass class so that we could have an activity only adults could do after the birth of our first child. He quickly became the "teacher's pet" as his mechanical skill was far superior, but after many, many late nights I fell in love - with glass!

Light drives me....
I love the way light can pass through glass and totally transform it. My sons, although only seven and three, already marvel at my creations and beg me to put them up to a window to view them. I love that I have instilled this appreciation for glass, and all its reflective qualities, in them at such a young age.

I just had to start melting stuff...
About a year ago, I was no longer content to make cold glass and was inspired by a local lampwork class. After an attempt at making lampwork beads however, I realized that this was not for me. While at the studio, I inquired about glass fusing, and decided to dive right in. I bought a kiln, all the supplies and decided that I could teach myself. I was amazed when my first, second, then third attempts were successful - again I fell deeper in love. Like most relationships, all it takes is a little background research and many sleepless nights!

Glass has given me the ability to take all the colours and shapes floating around my head and translate them into art, while challenging my technical abilities. When I'm in my studio I get to use the Parts of myu brain that were dusty from parenting duties and give me more to pass on to my kids, a deep appreciation of an age old artform and their mother - the glass artist.
